Vehicle adaptation function on your diagnostic machine
To date we have seen many vehicles that have been repaired, just returned to customers. Soon after that, the motor fails due to basic principles not being used during an engine repair. Most new generations engines have “self compensating or calibration” as the engine wears or a valve or ring starts to fail during operation. The “intelligent ECU” starts to compensate for this malfunction and most of the time adjusts the fuel and timing only on that cylinder before repair. Once the repair has been to this engine, then by using Diagnostic Equipment the “Adaption’s” have to be cleared on that ECU before returning to the customer. By clearing the memory, one tells the ECU to start a fresh, to “balance” that motor.
Cylinder bore wash will start immediately if this is not done directly after the repair. Also this is even more critical in a Diesel engine. So any cylinder head repair or major engine rebuild also requires this to be done. It also does not only apply to the motor but any repair or change to the automatic gearbox which would need the same clearing. This small time taken to use your diagnostic tool, will save you much aggravation time and money, and not to mention an unhappy customer.
