Diagnostic machines are not key coding machines

Diagnostic Machines or Key coding machines?

We have been inundated with requests for equipment which does diagnostics and key coding. The two subjects are far apart and one needs two separate pieces of equipment for those jobs.

So once you buy a Diagnostic machine you cannot expect it to be able to code keys as it was not developed for that purpose. Just imagine any would be thief would just in vest in a diagnostic machine and he can pick his next victim.

So the answer is yes and no for the above question, because certain pin codes are required, should you want to duplicate a key for most vehicles. These pin codes are normally supplied by the factory, but only to the franchise dealers normally.

The reason you are investing in Diagnostics is because you are not a dealer and also would not have access to these codes. Therefore if you do not have these codes the key coding function on your diagnostic machine will not work.

If you have access to these codes then most normal diagnostic units would be able to do the coding as required.

I often inform new buyer that the process of replacing standard keys for vehicles is divided into three parts and they are not always possible.

The blade or metal part needs to be cut by a locksmith and then the immobilizer section needs to be programmed followed by the remote section on the key to be synchronized with the vehicle.

Autodata would help for synchronizing of the remote as most of the time it is just a procedure that has to be followed.

I hope this is now as clear as mud………..happy diagnostics.
